Artist's Comments

Seacliff Archway, Clark's Head, Nova Scotia.

Also two years old, and the scanner wasn't kind to it. I fixed some of the damage in PS, but you'll have to take it as it is beyond that. I have a love for drawing buildings, the mixture of simplicity and complexity is enormously soothing, yet sometimes very frustrating.

I could never draw buildings for the life of me... So I salute you. I do love dearly looking at architectural pieces, though, I have a love for such and history. The amount of detail in this one is just stunning, and it must have taken you a lot of time... All the windows and the indivual bricks and all that... How big was this drawing originally?

I can't remember how long exactly it took, but it was a /really/ long time. I took ages blocking it out, and then I coloured all those bricks individually. Crazy/ambitious, I don't know which, but that picture was almost the death of me. It was orginally drawn on 11x18 paper, but there's a fairly thick border on it. About two or three inches of actual picture are missing from the scan.

Hmm 11x18 says nothing to me (I assume it's inches, since we use the metric system) but I think it's... pretty big? Hehe... Ok, yeah, I converted over the Internet, yeah... that's big, I could never draw that big, I just don't have the patience or the eye for detail. As in, seeing the big picture. So I really admire the skill and patience you've put into this.

XD I don't know, I'm from Canada, where we tried to go metric and gave up halfway through. I'm confused by some aspects of both systems. But it's biggish, but not really big. A regular sheet of printer paper is 8x11.

Well, even the regular printer paper size would be a strech for me. I can never fill that, either... though I've not been drawing much lately, been just painting straight in Photoshop the portraits I've been doing...
But yeah, the metric and the... what's this system called that you use...? anyway, they can both have their confusing aspects and that... Measurements, inches and feet... well, I don't remember their conversions, but I can understand them, but Fahrenheits are just utter Hebrew to me... (is that how you say that saying in English or is that a direct translation from Finnish, I don't know... when something is so incomprehensible that you just cannot make it out...)

Metric (metres and centimetres) and Imperial (feet and inches) are the two we use. You can definately use the utter Hebrew expression, it translates coherently, though in English, we most often say it's complete Chinese or might as well be Chinese.

Ohh, that's Imperial. Yes, rings a bell now, but before, couldn't remember what it was called for the life of me ;P
Might as well be Chinese, I like that... it makes sense. I like learning the English equivalents for what we say in Finnish...

Lol yes, I like language, what does and doesn't translate is fascinating, though mostly my parallels are to French, that being Canada's second language and all. The connections between the languages are so interesting.

I like language studies... I actually studied English in the university for a year and a half but it wasn't really my thing (I would have graduated to become a teacher...) so I switched fields and graduated from another field, but I still studying the English language and counterparts is fascinating. I studied some French in high school, but that was 7-8 years ago now, and you've no chance to speak any of it here so I've blisfully forgotten pretty much everything, which is a total shame. These days I speak English, my mother tongue Finnish, Swedish which is the second official language of Finland and I know some German and Russian, too...
